WIFE'S VISIT EASTERN MOJAVE AND STATELINE - 1996

Wise Old Pygmy Owl

The demeanor portrayed in Lenore and DeAnna's faces fairly well sums up the overall enjoyment experienced by the ladies on this excursion as they wait for the next exciting vistas in the Eastern Mojave Desert.

For a number of years we had tried to get the wife's to spend some time in the East Mojave with no success.  I fully understand that there are a number of ladies who like to go camping but our wife's are not members of that select group.  So year after year we would go on our excursions, come home and tell of the fun, excitement and beautiful vistas to a complete lack of interest.  Then someone came up with an excellent idea; We would go to Stateline, Nevada and spend the evenings gambling.  Then get up early Saturday morning, pack a lunch and spend the day with the wife's riding shotgun and show them around the East Mojave.  As one would expect, all we had to say was we would be staying in a hotel in the evenings and gambling while spending all  day Saturday driving around on the well traveled and somewhat smooth roads.  Also as a bonus they would be having a great dinner in the evenings.  Yes without hesitation was the answers although the Saturday trip met with muted enthusiasm.

We had a great time and the ladies enjoyed the trip more than they even anticipated which is not saying a lot.  The only eventful problem arose on Saturday when we were having lunch on our "private Property" in Landfair Valley and a Bureau of Land Management Ranger accused us of some transgressions and attempted to run us off of "our" private land.  Any difficulty was skirted when the Ranger finally realized that we were not on BLM land.  He left in somewhat of an unhappy mood realizing that he did not have a clue which land was public and which was not.  He left with the ignorant remark that we were close enough to public land to have to abide by their rules.  I have no idea what happened to Mike just hope they bumped him up into management like they usually do.

All in all, no one lost any money of consequence and all had  a great time both on the road and in the hotel........................this is my contention and may not correspond with the ladies remembrances of their day in the desert.

Participants were:  Robb and Lenore, Layton and Grace, DeAnna and Hank, Chris and Kelly and Jeff and Kim.
