SUMMARY OF ACTIVITIES:
Springtime
in this new century featured a “ three-peat “ with wagonmasters Hicks
and Keenan at the southwestern theme at Lake HiRi in the Mojave.
A
new twist to the conventional main meal scenario was suggested by Lenore
with a different locale selected. The group journeyed “ a short piece
“ to Calico Ghost Town where an inviting long table reserved for the
Hookups at the restaurant allowed them to savor the meat dishes from a
menu whose choices the members had pre-selected from an inquiry mailed to
each rig owner or owners prior to the outing.
Margaritas
and sangrias on the oar house/ore house meeting place mellowed moods and
readjusted attitudes prior to soups, bread, and Bingo in the evening.
The weather was very cooperative. Although an artist had been
commissioned to make a painting of the lake and bridge, the traditional T
shirts with that rendering on the backs were too “ busy “ for clarity,
even though Robb had been warned by son Jeff, the screen-printer, of that
probability. Another Robb Hicks “stumble” was the misstatement on the
bottom of the drawing which directed that Art Keenan designed the bridge.
In actuality, his son, Jeff Keenan, did the useful actual drawings. It was
indeed Art’s idea to construct such a useful
thing in the first place, however. And with capable “volunteer
laborers” as well!
